Regions & Cities Week 2016

European Week of Regions and Cities 2016

Smart Partnerships for New Skills

How can cities and regions deliver the skills of the future?

Date: Tuesday 11 October 2016
Time: 09:00 – 13:00
Location: Norway House, Brussels

Providing Europeans with the right skills, fostering talent, releasing potential and preparing them for the job markets of the future sits at the heart of Europe’s 2020 Strategy. To deliver the Strategy, the Commission will launch a new EU skills agenda in 2016 to bring together local and regional authorities, Member States and EU institutions to focus on three main priorities: Ensuring higher and more relevant skills for all; Promoting better visibility and use of available skills, and; A better understanding of skills needs and trends in the labour market. Our workshop showcased best practice from Europe’s regions and provided examples of how local and regional authorities are improving the skills and employability of EU citizens. We explored ideas on closing the skills gap, matching talent with business needs and how professional training schemes can improve employability. We also examined emerging ideas on skills for innovation and developing entrepreneurial ‘start-up skills’.
